Training Malaysian diplomats in negotiations
10 Jun 2013 - 18:06

Wilbur Perlot, one of Clingendael's most experienced negotiation trainers, just returned from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. There he gave two training courses in international negotiations. The first one for senior officers and the second one for the starting diplomats. All participants learned basic negotiation skills and strategies. The senior officers were also trained in more advanced techniques and complex multilateral negotiations, for instance a UN setting.

Especially among the senior officers there was a lot of multilateral experience, therefore the reflection on daily practices by the participants played a big role in the training. At the end of the training sessions, participants were extremely pleased. Their evaluation forms read “I learned a lot”, “I like the exercises and the simulations”, “Very good debriefings”, “Great balance between theory and practice”, and “Best training course ever, it was just too short!”

The training courses were organized by the Institute for Diplomacy and Foreign Relations (IDFR).
