Christopher Houtkamp is a Senior Research Fellow with Clingendael’s Security Unit. He is the Head of the Connected Security programme, focusing on security-related topics with a strong ‘internal’ and ‘external’ dimension, specifically unwanted foreign interference (for example: diaspora politics and transnational organised crime). In addition, he is the head-analyst of the Clingendael Foreign Policy Barometer, a large-scale population survey project on a wide range of foreign policy issues.
He previously worked as a PhD-researcher at the University of Amsterdam, as a member of the European research consortium MIME (Mobility and Inclusion in Multilingual Europe). His dissertation (2020) analyses the connection between language policy and migration amongst Turkish and Polish migrant communities in the European Union, with a specific focus on the transnational dimension of integration processes.
Christopher holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in European Studies from the University of Amsterdam, and a research master’s degree in Migration Studies from Utrecht University.
