On Wednesday 4 October, a group of experts assembled at the Clingendael Institute to discuss the future of the German-Dutch defence cooperation.

The Dutch army and its German counterpart Kommando Heer are working ever more closely together. At the same time, there are many developments that may affect German-Dutch defence cooperation: among others, the implementation of the Zeitenwende and the agreements made at the NATO Summit in Vilnius. These developments raise questions about what German-Dutch cooperation will look like in the (near) future.

Lieutenant General Martin Wijnen (Commander of the Netherlands Army), and Brigade General Wolfgang Jordan (Director of Planning of the German Land Forces) delivered the keynote speeches focused on the perspective of their countries. In the panel discussion Lieutenant General Nico Tak (Commander 1st German - Netherlands Corps), Lars Walrave (Director International Affairs, Ministry of Defence), and Anna van Zoest (Director Atlantic Commission) discussed options for an intensified German-Dutch cooperation.

The seminar was led by Dick Zandee (Head of the Security & Defence Programme at the Clingendael Institute).
