From May 29 until May 31, the Clingendael Academy conducted an advanced training course on Mediation and Dialogue in International Civil Crisis Management Missions in Tbilisi, Georgia. It addressed a group of 15 engaged mid- to senior-level practitioners within the European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM).

As a follow up on an earlier training on Mediation, Dialogue, and Conflict Analysis, this advanced course aimed to deepen these practitioners’ skills in dealing with deadlocks, facilitating mediation, and effective dialogue process design. These skills are fundamental for these practitioners, since they work in a conflict-sensitive context, for instance as Political Advisor or as hotline holder. Mediation and negotiation tools were applied to the specific context of Georgia. Clingendael Academy looks back on an intensive training that sparked some new ideas and reflections on the mission’s work. This training was developed as part of the EU Civilian Training Initiative (EUCTI), partially co-funded by the EU.
