Seminar 'Women in Conflict'
07 Jun 2017 15:00 - 18:30
Introduction

This is an event upon invitation. For further information on participation please contact Sylvia Hazenbroek.

Women are particularly vulnerable to violence in conflict situations. At the same time, they are often at the front lines. Whether it's in the role of mediator, reporter or military: women play a key role in all sorts of conflict around the world.

UN-resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security, co-initiated by the Netherlands, demands attention, assistance, and empowerment of women in these conflicts. As the Netherlands is taking seat in the UN Security Council in 2018, it is a timely moment to exchange views on what this is really about.

Together we will step out of our daily reality and into those of the women at the front lines. Three inspiring women will share their stories: Marit Maij (former member of parliament), Natalie Righton (correspondent at De Volkskrant, formerly based in Kabul), Hibaaq Osman (activist based in Egypt and founder of the Karama womennetwork) and Sandra Keijer, Colonel at Ministry of Defence (and former women police trainer in Afghanistan).

This event is co-hosted by the participants of the diplomatic training programme of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It will take place under Chatham House rule.
