Nienke van Heukelingen works at Clingendael’s EU & Global Affairs Unit. In her capacity as Research Fellow, Nienke’s work primarily revolves around EU-Turkey relations as well as Turkey’s role and impact in its region. Nienke has published various policy briefs, reports, and alerts and regularly contributes to various national media (Radio 1, BNR, NOS). 

Until June 2019, Nienke worked for the European Parliament’s Rapporteur on Turkey in Brussels, where she was co-responsible for drafting the European Parliament’s Turkey report. Before joining the European Parliament, she worked at a think tank called the Wiardi Beckman Foundation and freelanced  as a journalist for various Dutch newspapers. Nienke holds a BA in Journalism, and an MA in Political History.
