Jos Meester is a senior research fellow at Clingendael's Conflict Research Unit (CRU). He leads the research unit’s work on the Horn of Africa and business operations in developing countries. Besides this, he also leads Clingendael’s work on Early Warning and Early Action (data analytics), and is involved in climate change adaptation, geopolitics vis-à-vis China and other advisory services for Corporate Clients. He combines experience in corporate strategy and operations with hands-on knowledge of political-economic development in the Horn of Africa. He frequently acts as a speaker, facilitator and trainer on investment in difficult contexts.

Prior to his work at the Institute, Jos worked as a management consultant at KPMG in both the Netherlands and Brazil. In these positions he worked on strategic and operational issues, such as market entry assessments, operational optimisations and procurement improvement projects. These projects took place mainly in the oil & gas, construction, transport and healthcare & pharmaceuticals sectors.

Jos holds a master's degree in Political Science and Public Administration from Leiden University (the Netherlands), during which he specialised in the stability of formal and informal political institutions.
