As a skills trainer Hans provides workshops  in economic diplomacy and trade promotion, drawing on his practical  experience of having worked at the economic department of the Dutch embassy in Algiers and for the Workgroup for Economic Reconstruction of Afghanistan at VNO-NCW. He also trains professionals through simulations in the field of crisis management & communication as well as trust & confidence building, drawing on his own published research on these topics.

He is a frequent commentator on current developments in the Middle East in Dutch media and provides lectures on the subject to a variety of groups ranging from the military and diplomats to university students.

Hans graduated from Leiden University with  a Master’s degree in International Relations and Diplomacy (2008), and holds undergraduate degrees from Eckerd College in the United States (in International Relations) and again from Leiden University (in Arabic Language and Literature).
