EU action, plans and prospects.
This event is upon personal invitation only.
In 2016 a record number of migrants sought to reach Europe across the Central Mediterranean. Last year also saw a record number of lives lost at sea.
The first months of 2017 have seen continued flows across the Central Mediterranean Route (CMR). This indicates that if no action is taken we will be seeing the same level of arrivals to Europe and deaths at sea as last year.
In response, the EU and its Member States have progressively laid out a stronger and more articulated policy response to manage the flows and to save lives in the Central Mediterranean.
In this panel, organised by Malta EU 2017, the migration along the CMR and the action taken by the EU, its plans and prospects will be discussed.
