Launch of Clingendael International Sustainability Centre

Tuesday 21 February 2017 the Clingendael International Sustainability Centre (CISC) was launched. The launch was marked by festive event with a performance by comedian Gregory Shapiro, also known for his Trump voiceover for 'the Netherlands second video of Zondag met Lubach. Afterwards a panel on 'EU and private sector contributions to sustainability' took place with Gerben-Jan Gerbrandy (ALDE), Bas Eickhout (Greens/EFA), Ardi Stoios-Braken (Ministry of Foreign Affairs the Netherlands), and Michel Schuurman (CSR Netherlands). 

The Clingendael International Sustainability Centre is a new project group within the Research Department of the Clingendael Institute, focusing at the geopolitical, European and international cooperation aspects of sustainability issues. Notably with regard to climate change, circular economy and the SDGs. With CISC, Clingendael creates an institutional home for its already long track record in the field of sustainability research. The Clingendael International Sustainability Centre most of all wants to offer an new and integrated view on the geopolitics of sustainability by giving special attention to shifting power and production relations and the strategic positioning of key actors in this field.

In this briefing note Clingendael highlights and explores opportunities for analysis that might add value to national, European and international policy developments to enhance the transition towards a climate-friendly and circular economy.
