From October 2016, Clingendael will start the Asia-Pacific Research and Advice Network (APRAN)-project, together with its two partners Chatham House (UK) and the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS, Germany). This three-year undertaking will provide European policymakers with policy advice, specialised research and analysis on the Asia-Pacific region and on EU's relations with Asia-Pacific.

Funded by the EU’s External Action Service, it will contribute to the networked knowledge of leading thinkers and government officials in the EU and the Asia-Pacific - a region that provides great opportunities and vast challenges to the European continent. Ranging from jobs and economic growth to climate change, the EU’s ambitions as an economic power, political actor and aspiring security provider in the region demand an in-depth understanding of current affairs and broader context.

APRAN will take to the EU-level Clingendael’s longstanding experience with support to Dutch officials on policy formulation and implementation towards the Asia-Pacific region. APRAN-activities will focus attention on country- and region-specific issues to themes that bridge the political-economics-security nexus ─ from resetting the EU-India Strategic partnership to the impact of the China-led One Belt, One Road and AIIB on the EU’s interests; and from climate diplomacy to regional economic integration.
