Rethinking European Interventions on Pastoralism

Changes to rainfall patterns, land tenure laws, and agricultural systems have disrupted the regular movement and migration of livestock and pastoralist communities. As a result tensions and clashes between communities over livestock happen from Nigeria’s Middle Belt to the Liptako Gourma and the Sudan-South Sudan border.

Responses to this crisis have often been ad hoc and siloed and often lack a sound understanding of the challenges that pastoralists face. There is a need to re-imagine the way that policymakers and donors are supporting pastoral livelihoods and stabilization.

This webinar presents new research and resources for policymakers to help them adapt their approaches to security, local governance, climate resilience, and agricultural development in the Sudano-Sahel region to the account for pastoralist communities.
