About

The conference "Enriching the Planet- Empowering Europe" is organised by the Clingendael Institute in cooperation with and supported by the government of the Netherlands. The logistical support for the conference is being provided by MCCM.

The conference is one of the spin-offs of a cross-ministerial project of the Netherlands government on the issue of resource scarcity and the transition to sustainable economic growth. The cabinet of the Netherlands initiated the project group in April 2008 to expand knowledge and awareness on the coinciding future challenges of resource scarcity, climate change, loss of biodiversity, and changing geopolitical relations. The higher purpose of the project is to develop medium to long-term international action to achieve a sustainable economy and society. An initial result of the project is the report 'Scarcity and Transition'. Research questions for future policy, which was endorsed by five Ministers.

The Netherlands Institute of International Relations Clingendael is a renowned, independent, internationally oriented knowledge institute. Through research, the organisation of trainings and the provision of information the Institute plays a role in the field of international relations.
