The Hague, July 2 - The Netherlands Institute for International Relations ‘Clingendael’ has initiated the ‘Silk Road headlines’, a news service which provides regular updates on news articles from open sources related to China's Silk Road initiative.

China’s ‘One Belt, One Road’ concept comprises an ambitious project aimed at enhancing the connectivity between China and Eurasia. The concept combines the ‘Silk Road Economic Belt Initiative’ and the ‘21st Century Maritime Silk Road’ in one overarching structure. The Silk Road initiative is aimed at facilitating large infrastructure projects, at sea through port development in South-East Asia, around the Indian Ocean and in the eastern Mediterranean region, and at land through infrastructure cooperation in a zone that stretches from Xinjiang to the Baltic Sea.

China's Silk Road initiative offers both challenges and opportunities for the Netherlands and the European Union. But what do these challenges and opportunities entail, and what are their implications for international trade and geopolitics? To facilitate the debate on the Silk Road initiative, the Clingendael Institute has initiated the Silk Road Headlines. You can sign up for this news service here.
