For the twelfth time, Clingendael Academy has the honour to welcome a group of mid-career diplomats from Indonesia.

Ten diplomats arrived in The Hague to take part in a 3 week training programme on ‘Managing Foreign Policy Making in Indonesia’. This training is organized in bilateral cooperation with Kemlu’s Centre for Education and Training (CET). CET is part of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a strategic partner of the Clingendael Academy.

In the Kemlu system, after passing the mid-career course at the CET, diplomats will be able to rise to the ranks of head of division, and up, as well as equivalent ranks at Indonesia’s embassies and permanent representations. This course serves to prepare them for their new tasks, while at the same time strengthening the prospects for cooperation between Indonesia and the Netherlands.

Training programme

The training programme includes lectures, expert meetings and working visits both in the Netherlands and in Brussels, as well as professional skills training sessions. The skills trainings for the 10 mid-career diplomats focusses on the following: the ability to coordinate across departments, manage people and processes, public communication and negotiation skills.

Opening ceremony

On the first day of the training programme, Mr. Ron Ton, director Clingendael Academy, welcomed the participants and elaborated on the history of the fruitful cooperation between CET and Clingendael. Subsequently, prof.dr. Cees Flinterman, Honorary Professor of Human Rights at Utrecht University, gave a lecture on Human Rights in International Relations.
