September 1, 2009.
On 10 September 2009 the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in The Hague, the Embassy of the Republic of Hungary in The Hague and the Netherlands Institute of International Relations ‘Clingendael’ co-host the seminar “1989: Across the Border”, during which the historic events in 1989 will be highlighted. These events have been of tremendous influence on the people of Germany and Hungary, as well as on Europe as a whole. The hosting parties are very honoured to welcome former Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs (and current Euro-Commisioner for Taxation), H.E. Mr. László Kovács. During an informal debate Mr. Kovács will present his personal view on the historic events in 1989 and their aftermath. This seminar sets outs to present an eyewitness report on the political level. It also aims to analyse the overall impact of the end of the Iron Curtain-era with a focus on the identity of both countries, as well as on the political context in Europe.
Attendance to the seminar is upon personal invitation only.
