Synchronous start of two diplomatic training courses
April 23, 2009. The Clingendael Institute welcomes diplomats from all over the world in its diplomatic training programmes. On 15 April this led to the unique occasion of a joint opening of the Course for Diplomats from Pakistan and Bangladesh and the Course for Diplomats from South Eastern Europe. On this joyful occasion Peter Potman, Deputy Director of the MFA’s Directorate Western Hemisphere spoke on change and continuity in American foreign policy.
He discussed amongst other issues the high interest of the US in China, Pakistan and Afghanistan, the renewed interest in multilateralism and the question where that leaves us as Europe and in particular The Netherlands.
The Course for junior Diplomats from South Eastern Europe runs from April 15th till May 28th. 18 Young diplomats from Albania, Bosnia Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro and Bulgaria and Romania are participating. The overarching theme of the programme is Euro-Atlantic integration and covers international economics, European integration and cooperation and international security issues. Central in the curriculum is the development of personal and professional skills through lectures, case studies, simulations, working visits to Ministries and International Institutions in The Hague and Brussels and various assignments.
The Course for junior Diplomats from Pakistan and Bangladesh runs from April 15th till May 21st. More detailed information on this programme will follow in due time.
