Future Strategic Environment

The Clingendael Security and Conflict Programme examines and comments on contemporary threats. In addition, the programme also seeks to identify scenarios and trends in a changing global security environment in order to be able to assess the future security environment. This 'out-of-the-box' thinking aims to illustrate possible or imaginable threats to security. Moreover, research fellows gauge the extent of the effect that these threats are likely to have on our perceived security and how unimagined risks may jeopardize society in the future. The ability to foresee approaching security risks and their effects presents an indispensable tool in the process of shaping policies for the 'medium' to 'long' term.

Dr. Jaïr van der Lijn coordinates the work within this research area.
