CSCP Policy Brief: Dutch troops in Uruzgan - staying or leaving?

July 5, 2007. The Dutch government will most likely decide this summer whether or not the Dutch military mission in the south-eastern province of Afghanistan (Uruzgan) will be continued after August 2008. In this first CSCP Policy Brief of the Clingendael Security and Conflict Programme, it is argued that the current discussion about the possible extension should not only be a debate about pros and cons. Attention should also be paid to the essential preconditions of any choice. Only by taking these preconditions into account, the aims that the Dutch government had when deciding upon this mission will be secured. The Policy Brief (in Dutch language) can be downloaded here »
