Seminar on Democracy and Governance Assistance
March 12, 2005. On 11 March 2005, the Conflict Research Unit (CRU) co-hosted a seminar together with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) on Measuring the Impact of Democracy and Governance Assistance.
The seminar brought together a broad range of participants from both the academic and policy community, working in the field of democracy and governance (DG) assessment and evaluation. Main topics discussed included recent DG research initiatives by USAID and Clingendael, and methodological and data gathering problems involved in different fields of DG assistance, including civil society aid and political party assistance. The seminar concluded by outlining a few next steps in information-sharing and multi-donor collaboration in research on democracy and governance.
