New publication: CRU Case study on the reintegration of ex-combatants in Burundi

March 25, 2009. This case study constitutes Phase II of a broader research project on the lessons learned of reintegration processes as part of DDR programmes (see L. Specker, The R-phase of DDR processes: an overview of key lessons learned and practical experiences, September 2008, The Hague: CRU). The current case study focuses on the socio-economic context in which the reintegration of ex-combatants in Burundi takes place. It specifically looks into the main results and shortcomings of the Multi-country Demobilization and Reintegration Programme (MDRP) in Burundi. In light of the recent closure of the MDRP in December 2008, the case study offers a number of recommendations for possible follow-up programmes for the remaining caseload of ex-combatants in Burundi.
