Some Policy Challenges of a Global Nuclear Renaissance

July 23, 2009. A new CIEP Briefing Paper by Warner ten Kate and Jacques de Jong discusses prospects and conditions for a global “Nuclear Renaissance”. Prospects are triggered by energy security and climate change concerns, whereas conditions are focussing on building confidence meeting public concerns. The paper argues that both issues regarding market models and investor assurances, (regional) approaches for final high-level waste disposal and political questions around nuclear technology and nuclear non-proliferation could help in building further confidence enhancing societal acceptance.
