Can Russian oil growth be sustained?
October 12, 2005. In CIEP's fourth briefing paper Erik Janssen argues that it is uncertain whether Russia can further increase oil production and exports. The main reasons to doubt whether Russia will be able to fulfil its geopolitical ambitions through oil are uncertainty about the amount and quality of the remaining reserves, the recent deterioration of the investment climate as a consequence of increased state control combined with excessive regulation, and export bottlenecks.
