The US regulatory system, an inspiration for Europe? A perspective from the FERC 25 February 2010

The Clingendael International Energy Programme is pleased to announce that on February 25, Mr. Michael McGehee of the United States Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), will give a presentation on “The US regulatory system, an inspiration for Europe? A perspective from the FERC”.

In his presentation, Mr. McGehee will elaborate on the regulatory framework regarding gas infrastructure projects in the United States. In addition, he will point out the differences between the EU and the US on this matter. The FERC is an independent agency that regulates the interstate transmission of electricity, natural gas, and oil.

Within the FERC, Mr. McGehee is the Director of the Division of Pipeline Certificates, which has the overall responsibility of managing all natural gas infrastructure projects, including major pipeline, LNG and underground storage projects, as well as authorizing the siting and operation of natural gas import and export facilities. Furthermore, this department is advising the Commission on engineering issues relating to hydraulic analysis and pipeline flow modeling, underground storage of natural gas and quality and interchangeability.

The lecture will start at 15.30 hrs and will end at 17.15 hrs with drinks. Please see the appended programme for more details.

The discussion after the lecture will be held under Chatham House rules.
