CIEP Conference: "Energy Corridors in SE-Europe" 13 February 2009

On the 13th February, CIEP is organizing a conference in partnership with the “Turkije Instituut” titled “Energy Corridors in SE-Europe”. The conference will have a broad international participation. Renowned experts from the Nabucco consortium, Iran, Turkey and the EU will share their insights on the developing role of South Eastern Europe as a key transit route for oil and gas producer to the growing consumer markets of Europe. It starts at 13h00 and finishes around 17h15.

Energy supplies to the EU-market are continuing to be major challenges. Especially gas supplies via long-haul pipelines from the east to the west, bypassing several transit-countries, require both numerous political & legal, and economic & technical issues to be solved. South-eastern energy corridors such as the Nabucco-pipeline, are planned with Turkey as a major transiting region. Together with the Netherlands “Turkije Instituut”, the Clingendael International Energy Programme (CIEP) will organise a half day conference discussing recent developments on these south-eastern European corridors. The focus of the developments will be the Nabucco-pipeline and will include the intergovernmental Nabucco-summit scheduled for January 25-26 in Budapest, as well as perspectives and prospects from the side of the consortium-partners, from the Turkish government and from the point of view of the most major potential gas-supplier in the region.
