CESP/CIEP High-level Expert Seminar 'Climate and energy policy in the European Union'. 23 april 2007
The Council of the European Union adopted a far-reaching policy package on energy and climate policies in its meeting on 8 and 9 March 2007. In particular it includes very ambitious targets with respect to increasing energy efficiency and the share of renewable energy in the EU's energy supply and the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions. It is generally expected that achieving the policy goals formulated will be very difficult and that the negotiations about the assignment of country-specific targets for the reduction of emissions and the share of renewables will be very cumbersome.
CESP and CIEP organise a high-level expert seminar, chaired by former Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs, Professor Laurens Jan Brinkhorst, to review the Council conclusions and to discuss the steps that need to be taken.
