"The Return of King Coal: New Perspectives for Coal as a Clean Energy Source?"
16 May 2006
On the 16th of May 2006, the Seminar The Return of King Coal: New Perspectives for Coal as a Clean Energy Source? was held. This future fuel seminar was part of a series, in which CIEP offers perspectives on new energy sources and technologies for a transition to a low-carbon economy.
Previous seminars were organised on 24 January 2006 (nuclear energy), 9 December 2005 (biofuels) and 27 June 2005 (Gas To Liquids).
The seminar addressed the role of coal and clean coal technologies in the international energy market. More specifically, the seminar focused on carbon capture and storage (CCS) and coal for use in power generation. Speakers in the seminar were Franz-Josef Wodopia from the German hard-coal mining federation, Bert Metz from the Environmental Assessment Agency, Netherlands, Andrew Minchener from the IEA Clean Coal Centre, United Kingdom and Sible Schöne from the Climate Office, Netherlands.
