Electricity Seminar 5 July 2002
Electricity systems all over the world are currently undergoing far reaching reforms, generally aiming at increasing overall efficiencies by promoting more competition. The impact of these changes on market organisation, regulation, capacity and trade require our close attention.
The Clingendael International Energy Programme (CIEP) wants to analyse the consequences of these developments for the future of electricity markets in Europe with attention to the circumstances in the Netherlands. Sound background information and in-depth analysis should be used to evaluate current policies in Europe in the perspective of postulated goals to be achieved in the medium and long term. CIEP acknowledges the wide body of work which has been done in this area. However, a comprehensive and deep view on the future of electricity markets is missing and gaps still need to be filled (see also research section).
CIEP would like to establish an ongoing information exchange with stakeholders in the Dutch and European electricity markets to bundle expertise and views. As a first start of this process an informal brainstorm meeting took place on July 5th, 2002.
