EU leaders should not be afraid to already embrace the climate change and energy package

The spring European Council of 13 and 14 March 2008 will present a first opportunity to seal at the political level the climate action and renewable energy package the Commission proposed on 23 January 2008. This CESP Commentary discusses why the political leaders of the EU member states should fully use this opportunity. It presents a brief analysis on diverging views with regard to the proposals, points to the balance achieved within the package, and to the urgency of its rapid adoption in the light of the EU's political agenda and the international climate negotiations.
