Doctoral Research
Ellen Huijgh
Ellen Huijgh is pursuing doctoral research (2007-2011) on domestic public diplomacy in Canada’s capital, Ottawa. As a doctoral candidate and co-editor of the Discussion Papers in Diplomacy, she is associated with the Clingendael Diplomatic Studies Programme (CDSP).
As a CDSP research fellow, she did a study on the public diplomacy of federated entities (Quebec) for the Flemish Department of Foreign Affairs, which was commissioned to Clingendael by the Flemish Centre for International Policy. Her interest in public diplomacy touches on theory building, and issues of domestic outreach, identity pluralism, diversity governance and communication in foreign policy, non-state actors, federal states and their entities.
She is a member of several research organisations, such as the Canadian International Council (Toronto), the International Association of Quebec Studies (Quebec), the Corporate Communication Institute (Baruch College/City University of New York), and before joining Clingendael, Ellen worked as a research fellow for the Communication Department of the Free University, Brussels (2002-2006) as well.
