Kosovo training on EU affairs and international relations

October 16, 2009. For the fifth consecutive year, Clingendael has been this month again training representatives from the Government of Kosovo. This training has become even more relevant now that Kosovo is an independent country, recognised by 22 EU member states. The main goal of this two-weeks training, which is organised in the MATRA framework, is to support the building of Kosovo capacities and institutions.

Most of the participants come from the Agency for European Integration within the Office of the Prime Minister. This year however, the programme also includes a representative from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and one from the Ministry of Security Forces, two newly established institutions. Focussing on EU affairs, international relations and diplomacy, this programme is a combination of lectures, skills training and working visits. Ample time is devoted to discussions, allowing the participants to share their views and exchange with their European counterparts. The ultimate goal of this training will be to equip the future Kosovo foreign policy-makers with the knowledge and professional skills required to address the future international and European challenges Kosovo will face in the coming years.
