Junior diplomats from Indonesia successfully complete diplomatic training

April 16, 2009. On Friday April 10, a group of eighteen junior diplomats from Indonesia successfully completed the course 'Indonesia in World Politics' at the Clingendael institute. The group of eighteen had been selected by the Indonesian diplomatic academy (the ‘Centre for Education and Training’ (CET)) as the best diplomats-in-training of Jakarta’s 2008-2009 batch.

The group, who were the sixth batch of junior diplomats from Indonesia to be trained at the Clingendael Institute, had started their course on February 17 already, exploring everything from questions of international law and human rights to economic priorities for Indonesia, and from regional integration (both ASEAN and EU) to new security challenges. Some highlights of their extensive eight-week programme included the simulation games on conference diplomacy and the Copenhagen climate negotiations (photo above), a debating session on international (development) cooperation, and working visits to a number of international organisations in Brussels and Paris, from NATO to the International Energy Agency.

The Clingendael institute, which also organises courses for mid-career and senior diplomats from Indonesia, has already trained near to two hundred and fifty diplomats from Indonesia in diplomatic courses in the Hague since the start of the cooperation in 2004.
