A world to be won: cultural diplomacy in the Netherlands
October 16, 2008. Dutch diplomacy and international cultural relations are increasingly influenced by the effects of globalisation, immigration and the changing geopolitical situation. So far these trends have run in parallel but, as Ben Hurkmans argues, they now make a more coherent cultural diplomacy policy possible. For the Netherlands it is imperative to justify its conduct in the world, also in terms of domestic policy, and the arts and heritage sector has to justify financial support. A new way of thinking and an updated policy framework in which both actors intensify their collaboration are needed. Read more »
