In this first issue of a new series Clingendael Commentaries, Jan Melissen argues that the commotion surrounding member of parliament Geert Wilders' anti-Koran film "Fitna" is an international issue that will continue to test Dutch diplomacy for some time. Apart from crisis management the affair does however also offer an opportunity for long-term public diplomacy, that is a readjustment of policies aiming at maximising the Netherlands' soft power.
