HJD special issue on 'Rethinking the new public diplomacy'

November 26, 2007. The latest issue of The Hague Journal of Diplomacy (HJD), Clingendael's flagship international journal, is a special issue called "Rethinking the New Public Diplomacy". Five academic research papers and one article by a public diplomacy practitioner contribute to the international debate on public diplomacy, especially the crisis in US public diplomacy. More than six years after '9/11', the tradititional American way of wielding soft power has still by no means succeeded in producing the desired results. In this issue of HJD, mainly North American authors from various disciplines offer alternatives for the dialogue with critical and assertive foreign audiences. Their focus is on North America, but their insights are no less relevant for other countries struggling with one of diplmacy's most formidable challenges.
