1st The Hague Diplomacy Conference: Crossroads of Diplomacy 21-22 June 2007
June 18, 2007. This is the first in a series of major conferences on diplomacy under the auspices of The Hague Journal of Diplomacy. The emphasis of the two-yearly international conferences will be on innovations in diplomatic practice as well as theoretical debates. The objective is to provide a showcase for some of the latest scholarship in diplomacy across the world. They will also provide junior students of diplomacy with a chance to have their research discussed and commented upon by more senior figures. The conferences are sponsored by the city of The Hague.
More than 40 selected scholars and practitioners attend the 2007 conference, including experts from seven EU countries (Belgium, Bulgaria, Germany, The Netherlands, Poland, Spain, UK), and participants from the United States, India, Russia, Canada, Australia, Norway, Switzerland and Montenegro.
Presentations and discussions at the 1st The Hague Diplomacy Conference will be on trends in diplomatic representation, consular affairs, public diplomacy, sub-state diplomacy, as well as diplomatic continuity in a fast-changing international environment. See the programme for more details.
