Clingendael Asia Studies
September 14, 2006. The Clingendael Institute announces the launch of Clingendael Asia Studies (CAS), aimed at promoting academic and public discussion on a diverse range of topics relating to Asia's international relations. CAS will undertake research and analysis on (East) Asian political economy, security and energy issues. Geostrategic implications of the emergence of China for the region and also for Europe and the Netherlands are a major point of interest.
Clingendael Asia Studies thus responds to Asia's growing importance in international economics and (resource) security, and this initiative reflects intensifying Asian-European relations in the public and private domain. Seminars and conferences will provide a platform for discussion with academic institutions in the EU and Asia, government agencies, non-profit organizations, the corporate sector and others. The three-year project is a unique cooperation of the Clingendael Diplomatic Studies, Security and Energy Programmes (CDSP, CSCP, CIEP), supported by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
