New Paper: Public Diplomacy: Improving Practice, Conference Report

January 23, 2006. In November 2005 an International Expert Seminar on public diplomacy was held at the Clingendael Institute. Participants from 11 small and middle powers addressed a range of practical questions on public diplomacy. Special attention was therefore given to questions surrounding the public diplomacy experiences and needs of such states. Practitioners at the conference were mostly diplomats, but also included a small number of academic experts on public diplomacy. Presentations and discussions took place under the Chatham House Rule. This Report gives the results of the frank and wide-ranging discussions, respecting the seminar's confidentiality. It contributes to a more comprehensive view of the importance of public diplomacy, arguably one of the foremost professional challenges in foreign ministries today. Read more »
