International Seminar on Public Diplomacy

17-18 November 2005

What constitutes successful public diplomacy? How to communicate a variety of policy issues to foreign audiences in order to achieve a favourable reputation overseas? These and other questions on public diplomacy are rapidly gaining importance in ministries of foreign affairs across the world.

On the 17-18 November 2005 the Clingendael Diplomatic Studies Programme organizes an international seminar designed to help improve our understanding of public diplomacy. This seminar offers a distinctly different learning opportunity, offering diplomats from different countries an opportunity to compare their experiences with public diplomacy in their day-to-day operations. Academics will have a more conceptual input and provide insights based on various case-studies.

By studying relevant cases and engaging in group discussions, this seminar aims to support the participating countries to learn and apply lessons in public diplomacy to their own individual circumstances. The result is a two-day program in which participants will first of all learn from each other about an aspect of diplomacy that is here to stay.

Seminar discussions will be of a confidential nature. This event is not open to the public.
