Clingendael has a long tradition of doing contract research and consultancy work. Governments, international institutions and other organizations working in the field of international relations can rely on Clingendael's widely recognized expertise, speed and flexibility when it comes to contract research. The Clingendael Diplomatic Studies Programme has particular research strength in the fields of diplomacy, international security policy, as well as Islam and relations with the Arab world. CDSP's present consultancy activities have an emphasis on these fields, but there are few challenges in policy-oriented international relations research that cannot be met by either CDSP or the other Clingendael Programmes working in the fields of security, European integration or international energy issues. Clingendael has excellent staff of its own and direct access to a wide-ranging network of national and international experts.
As for the training staff, CDSP's expertise extends the development of training programmes. Organisations can use this expertise of the CDSP staff to develop internal courses in international policy. The CDSP staff can also assist in processes of internationalisation within organisations. CDSP has assisted in the development of several foreign diplomatic institutions, such as diplomatic academies. These activities include the development of a documentation centre, management development, curriculum development, and train the trainer programmes. At this moment, these activities take place in the diplomatic academies of Romania and Bulgaria.
