Sino-Israeli Relations: New Outlook? Tuesday, 31 August 2010
China's influence in the Middle East is growing, and Beijing's economic and diplomatic relations with many Arab countries are developing rapidly. Due to China's rise, the West and Russia are no longer the only major external actors in the region. At the same time, Israel's relations with the West are getting less close than before. These developments raise the question how Sino-Israeli relations are developing, and how Israel will position itself with regard to the United States and China. The presentation by Aron Shai will focus on these issues. Afterwards there will be an opportunity for discussion.
Aron Shai is the Shoul N. Eisenberg Professor for East Asian Affairs and Rector (elect) at Tel Aviv University in Israel. He recently published Sino- Israeli Relations: Current Reality and Future Prospects (Tel Aviv: Institute for National Security Studies, September 2009).
